Nusantara Indonesia’s new capital

The new capital of Indonesia was named Nusantara

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has selected the name of the country’s new capital Nusantara.

According to Monoarfa (politician and entrepreneur), the Indonesian president made the decision on Friday, January 14. Nusantara means "island" or "archipelago" in ancient Javanese and is the poetic name of Indonesia. As Monoarfa notes, the name was chosen since it is popular all over the world and does not cause controversy in the country.

To state, this decree concerning capital transfer was adopted in 2019. One of the reasons for relocating the capital is Jakarta’s contingency of rapid flooding. According to reports, part of the city could be flooded by 2050. It is also one of the largest cities in the world suffering from congestion and air pollution. For this reason, it was decided to select a new capital on the island of Kalimantan.
