Prospects for Central Asian Transport and Transit Interdependence

The 27th meeting of Working Group of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia on Development of Transport and Logistics Interconnectivity in the Region takes place on 26-27 October in Tashkent.

On the first day of the event, participants discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the SPECA region, methods to overcome such challenges, as well as national and international transport infrastructure projects and initiatives.

Representatives of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan exchanged their experience in efficient organization and management of road, rail and air transport infrastructure and agreed to develop existing and new transport corridors in the region.

During the event, representatives of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe expressed readiness to provide technical assistance to SPECA countries to improve infrastructure, ensure road safety and develop international corridors.

On 27 October, the event will discuss UN legal instruments in the field of transport, transport and trade standards, prospects for digitalization of the sector and other issues.
