Tokayev approves prisoner exchange agreement between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

It was reported that the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev signed a law on the ratification of the agreement between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on the transfer of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment to continue serving their sentences.
Under the terms of the agreement, the prisoner's consent must be obtained before an exchange can take place. The person must submit a statement of his/her intention to serve his/her sentence in his/her home country.
It is noted that an application by the convict, his nationality, as well as the consent of the parties are required for the transfer of criminals. The term of imprisonment must be at least one year. Convicts will not be extradited if they harm the country's sovereignty and the security of national legislation, or if they have financial debts while the person is on trial or under investigation.
It is known that 486 Uzbek nationals are currently serving sentences in Kazakhstan. There are 20 Kazakhs in Uzbek prisons.
