Uzbekistan to cooperate with Spain to solve water supply problems

Uzbekistan and Spain signed bilateral agreements in the spheres of water supply and development of silkworm breeding and caraculture today within the framework of joint business forum.
Two memorandums of understanding were signed.
"The first memorandum was signed between Spanish company IDOM and Uzsuvtaminoat enterprise. This project aims to improve drinking water supply to the population. Today only 70 per cent of Uzbekistan's population has access to clean drinking water and it is expected that through a joint project between Uzbekistan and Spain this problem will be solved.
The second memorandum was signed between the Spanish company WES and the Committee for the Development of Silk and Karakul Sheep Breeding in Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan has great potential in this sector.
The partnership with the Spanish company plans to introduce new approaches and technologies to develop production and improve the quality in these areas," Sherzod Gulamov, chief specialist of the Agency for Foreign Investment Promotion, told the international magazine Bright Uzbekistan.
The forum was attended by Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Oybek Hamrayev and Spain's Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Shiana Mendez.
"In 2017, we signed a memorandum between Uzbekistan and Spain on establishing an intergovernmental commission on industrial and economic cooperation. Today, the first meeting of this commission is taking place in Tashkent. After discussions, we have come to an agreement on a financial protocol in the amount of 250 million euros. I hope that this cooperation will be fruitful for the economies of both countries." - said Shiana Mendez.
The forum also included B2B meetings with more than 40 representatives of Spanish companies and about 100 representatives of Uzbekistan businesses.
