Alihan Smaiylov – new Prime Minister of Kazakhstan

After Asqar Mamin’s retirement, Alihan Smaiylov, who has been serving as the head of the Kazakh government, was designated as the Prime Minister.

Kazakh President Kasyym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed acting Prime Minister Alihan Smaiylov as Prime Minister following the resignation of Askar Mamin.

Alihan Smaiylov (born in 1972) has been the First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Finance since February 2019.

In 1999, he became the head of the Kazakh Statistics Agency, where he held senior positions in government agencies. Over the years, he served as Deputy Foreign Minister, Deputy Minister of Finance, Chairman of the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of National Economy, and Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan.

From September 2018 to February 2019, he worked as Minister of Finance.
