215 convicts pardoned by presidential decree

The Presidential Decree "On pardoning a group of persons serving a sentence who sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of correction" was adopted.

According to the decree, in accordance with paragraph 23 of Article 93 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 215 persons serving a sentence for a committed crime, who sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of correction, were pardoned.

Of the pardoned, 3 persons were completely released from serving the main sentence, 127 persons were released from serving the sentence on parole, the sentence imposed on 12 persons was replaced by a milder one.

The terms of punishment in the form of imprisonment, assigned to 73 persons, have been reduced. Among the pardoned 14 women, 12 men over 60 years old, 69 citizens of foreign states, 15 persons who participated in the activities of banned organizations.

Responsible ministries, departments and khokimiyats have been given appropriate instructions for the social adaptation of the pardoned, involving them in useful work and rendering assistance in establishing a healthy lifestyle.

Over the past five years, 16 pardons have been announced in Uzbekistan and 4,965 people have been forgiven.
