A seminar on Restoration and sustainable use of desert slopes through climate financing in Uzbekistan was organized

On December 1, 2021, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the development of the Silk and wool industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Succow Foundation Nature Protection Fund of Germany. As the second stage of cooperation, a seminar on "Restoration and sustainable use of desert slopes through climate financing in Uzbekistan" was held on January 18-20, this year.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the association" development of Yaylov economy", the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the state branch of Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the state branch of Forestry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the center of the Gidrometeorological service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the United Nations Development Program(UNDP), the Central Asian, "Uzuererloyiha" State Scientific-Design Institute, a number of research institutes and scientists of Economics participated.

One of the important areas of activity of the Zukkov Foundation is the sustainable use of the desert ecosystems of Central Asia. In particular, the project “Central Asian desert initiative” (CADI), implemented in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the State Department of Forestry of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO UN), is dedicated to this.

Within the framework of this initiative, the Fund is developing a proposal to prepare a National Action (NAMA PIN) to mitigate the impact of climate change in the area of the use of Steppe slopes. This concentration implies the sustainable use of deserts and steppes and the reduction of ecological regeneration uglerod. NAMA is the new funding mechanism for climate change for the United Nations.
