CIS chairmanship transferred to Kyrgyzstan

The presidency of the Commonwealth of Independent States has passed to the Kyrgyz Republic as of 1 January 2023.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, Kyrgyzstan will be a member of the CIS Council of Heads of State, Council of Heads of Government, Council of Foreign Ministers and chair the Economic Council and other structures during 2023, according to a decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State dated 14 October 2022.

President Sadyr Japarov criticised Kyrgyzstan's 2023 chairmanship priorities at the CIS summit in Astana. During the chairmanship period the Kyrgyz side by expanding and deepening mutual cooperation between the structures of multi-level integration in the Commonwealth, good neighborliness based on mutual respect for each other's interests among the CIS member states and building trust-based relations.

It is worth mentioning that during the Astana Summit of October 14, 2022, the heads of the Commonwealth of Nations decided to change the post of Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary for "CIS Secretary General" from 2023.

P.S. Kazakhstan and Russia will be co-chairmen. Kazakhstan chaired the CIS in 2022, and there is information that Russia will chair it in 2024.
