Conference on SCO: From Central Asia to Eurasia

Today, June 17, the International Institute of Central Asia hosted a conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the SCO Charter: "SCO: From Central Asia to Eurasia". The conference was organized by the International Institute of Central Asia in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The international conference was attended by National Coordinators of the SCO member states, staff of the Secretariat and Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, leading experts from Central Asian countries, Russia, China, Iran, India, Pakistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan and representatives of Uzbek ministries and departments.

During the conference, experts discussed the following issues:

Promoting regional cooperation in Central Asia through security and strategic stability, as well as confidence-building measures between the SCO member states;

Role of Central Asia in the development of the SCO as a promising platform for strengthening interregional ties;

Importance of the Central Asian region in terms of the transformation of the Organization as its "geographical core";

Prospects and opportunities for further development of the organization in connection with Iran's accession to the SCO;

Discussion on various concepts aimed at expanding geo-economic opportunities and overcoming geographical isolation by strengthening regional interdependence.
