Daily number of metro passengers reaches 650,000

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the progress of construction work on the Tashkent metro on 8 February.
The first stage of the elevated line of Tashkent Metro was launched in August 2020. In December of the same year, the Sergeli metro line was opened. Today's passenger traffic figures confirm that these projects have fully justified themselves.
The Head of State visited the new line. In his conversation with representatives of the older generation and the public, he touched upon the importance of this project.
"We have gained experience in this sphere in recent years. Seven underground stations in Kuilyuk direction and five stations in Sergeli have been built. If 240 thousand passengers used the Tashkent metro earlier, their number has exceeded 600 thousand today. Our plan is 1 million passengers. If we hadn't started this in due course, the urban transport could have collapsed. Now we need to work on alternative energy as well," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The president toured the underground with civilians.
In the coming months, a four-kilometre stretch of line from Stroiteley Massif to Kipchok will also be commissioned. Thus, the travel time between Kuyluk and Sergeli will be 15 minutes. The line will be able to transport around 40 thousand passengers a day.
This is expected to reduce the use of private vehicles and the load on the roads. Specifically, the daily vehicle traffic on the Kuyluk-Sergeli route could decrease to 40 thousand, and the traffic on the roads could decrease by 12 percent.
In general, with the completion of this phase, the total length of the Tashkent metro will be over 70 kilometres and the number of stations will reach 50. The daily passenger traffic will reach 650 thousand people. A total of 245 new jobs will be created.
