Development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the U.S. in the field of energy

Energy Minister of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov held talks with a delegation headed by US Under Secretary of Commerce Maris Lago.
The sides discussed energy sector reforms, in particular, privatization of energy objects, development of renewable energy sources.
The Uzbek side presented plans on development of "green" energy and achievement of carbon neutrality. By 2030 the country intends to generate at least 25 percent of its electricity from renewable energy sources, including 7 GW of solar energy and 5 GW of wind energy.
142 potential sites for hydropower development have been studied and 54 projects have been identified. Also, 200 projects for the construction of micro hydropower plants with a capacity of up to 500 kW will be implemented.
The sides also discussed possibilities for cooperation in the field of application of modern technologies and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the field of renewable energy sources where the USA has accumulated positive experience.
The growing interest of American companies in expanding their activity in Uzbekistan was pointed out by the example of Air Products projects. In addition, cooperation with such companies as GE, Schlumberger, Honeywell UOP is underway. Consultancy services for large energy projects are provided by Degoler & McNaughton and SA consulting companies.
