Discussion on cooperation issues between Uzbekistan and the ADB

At the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade S. Umurzakov met with Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Ashok Lavas.

During the meeting, the sides canvassed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ADB.

The ADB leadership noted that in recent years Uzbekistan has created ample opportunities to strengthen the role of the private sector in almost all sectors of the economy. In this regard, the issues of expanding the involvement of the Bank's resources to support private sector projects, especially women and youth entrepreneurship, were discussed.

The parties considered joint projects using public-private partnership mechanisms in infrastructure development, health, education and social spheres. Ashok Lavasa Bank expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the field of PPP. This is evidenced by the fact that the modernization of schools and other institutions in Tashkent and Tashkent region using PPP mechanisms, as well as the construction of multidisciplinary hospitals in Andijan and Bukhara are on the agenda.

During the event, measures were consented on the promotion of existing projects, the involvement of ADB specialists in the development and implementation of public-private partnership mechanisms for projects in transport, electricity and health, expansion of credit lines to commercial banks in Uzbekistan.
