EBRD signs agreements on 14 projects to support a range of industries in Uzbekistan

Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev received Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central Asia Zsuzsanna Hargitai.
During the meeting, representatives of the Bank highly appreciated the effectiveness of socioeconomic reforms in Uzbekistan and expressed intention to continue financial and technical support to modernization processes in energy, infrastructure development, irrigation and other areas.
The EBRD's extensive involvement in the implementation of reforms aimed at improving the housing, energy and water sectors was voiced. From 2018 to date, the EBRD has signed agreements on 14 projects in Uzbekistan to support these sectors. In addition, the portfolio consists of seven new investment projects - worth more than $724 million.
An agreement has been reached to intensify the interaction between the established working groups in preparation and implementation of upcoming events at a high organizational and substantive level.
During the talk the sides have expressed the Bank's interest in promoting the institutional strengthening of the irrigation sector of Uzbekistan, implying the financing of the project of "Modernization of 118 pumping stations in Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions" worth $200 million. It was agreed to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on joint implementation of this project.
