Exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan

On July 25, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with the EU Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas Niklasson, who came to our country to participate in the international conference "Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development".
At the meeting, current issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union were discussed. The parties welcomed the approval of the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union and noted the need to sign this important document as soon as possible.
They exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan.
T.Niklasson said that Brussels highly appreciates the political and diplomatic efforts and special position of Uzbekistan in solving the Afghan problem. It was reported that the European Union is interested in continuing regular dialogue with Tashkent on the regional agenda.
The European side noted that the international conference on Afghanistan was held on time. It was noted that the high level of the participants of the event indicates the recognition of the important role of Uzbekistan and the efforts of the republic in solving the Afghan problem. The event also shows the consistency of the official policy of Tashkent, readiness to make a significant contribution to the establishment of peace on Afghan soil. In this regard, the activities of the international multifunctional transport-logistics hub for providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan were highly appreciated.
