Gender audits will be conducted in State bodies and organizations

Amendments and additions have been made to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men. The Act enters into force from the date of its official publication.

Accordingly, the following new concepts have been introduced into the Act:

    gender audit - study and assessment of the status of compliance with the requirements of the legislation on guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the activities of state bodies and organizations, including in the implementation of human resources policy, as well as a comprehensive approach to gender issues ;

    gender mainstreaming - organization of activities of state bodies and organizations, including human resource policy, in accordance with the legislation on guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

The main objectives of the gender audit are:

    To study the ratio of women to men in state bodies and organisations;

    To study the status of government bodies and organisations organising their activities on the basis of a gender mainstreaming approach

    To assess the status of implementation of legislation in the area of equal rights and opportunities for women and men

    Development of proposals to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

According to the approved three-year plan, the gender audit is conducted by the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan as part of public monitoring in State bodies and organizations.
