High-Level Meeting on Sustainable Development in Mountainous Areas

A high-level meeting on sustainable mountain development co-hosted by Kyrgyzstan took place in New York on the margins of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Delegations from Member States and UN agencies participated in the event.
The meeting participants shared their visions for enhancing cooperation on improving mountain ecosystems, improving the wellbeing of inhabitants of such regions, as well as conserving glaciers.
In his turn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov briefed the participants on our country's priorities for development of mountain areas, creation of necessary conditions for improvement of social and economic well-being of their inhabitants. Efforts to promote green agenda issues, environmental protection, conservation of biodiversity and careful use of natural resources have been noted.
Uzbekistan's commitment to deepening joint work with international partners in priority areas of mountain ecosystem preservation has been confirmed. The relevance of developing a World Ecological Charter, which was initiated by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, was also emphasized.
