In granting names to geographical objects the opinion of the population is taken into account

Act on amendments and additions to the Act of the Republic of Uzbekistan The Act on the Naming of Geographical Objects has been signed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Pursuant to the Act, the views of local inhabitants are to be taken into account in preparing proposals for the naming of sites and their renaming.

In order to discuss the proposals, once they have been received, the relevant authorities shall publish them in their official publications, on official websites and in the media within 5 working days.

In addition, the discussion of the proposals must not last less than 15 days from the date of their publication.

In addition, geographical sites were allowed to be named after persons who have left a profound mark on world history.

However, the naming of persons who have left a profound mark on the history of Uzbekistan or the world is done after their death by presidential decision and, as a rule, for parts of localities whose names do not exist.
