Issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and EBRD discussed

Jurgen Rigterink highly appreciated the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and confirmed the EBRD's intention to continue financial, investment and consulting support of the processes of economic transformation in the republic.

He also noted that the Board of Directors approved financing for Thermal Power Plants JSC in the amount of 88.6 million euros to ensure the uninterrupted operation of power generating enterprises of Uzbekistan in the autumn-winter period.

In addition, the EBRD will support the direct investment of Masdar (UAE) in the project “Construction of a 100 MW photovoltaic power plant in the Karmaninsky district of the Navoi region” by providing financing to the Emirati company in the amount of $ 60.0 million.

During the videoconference, the parties also discussed issues of expanding cooperation in raising funds for the implementation of promising investment projects on PPP terms in Uzbekistan in the fields of energy, healthcare and infrastructure development.

The Bank's readiness to expand the program of financial support for small and medium-sized businesses was emphasized, which will create additional opportunities for creating new jobs and improving the welfare of the country's population.

Following the talks, the parties outlined the next steps for the further development of bilateral cooperation within the designated areas, the ministry said in a statement.
