This was announced by Andrew Stevenson, chairman of the Conservative Party, and Graham Brady, head of the party's management committee, at a ceremony held in London.
The election of the leader of the Conservatives ended on September 2, about 170,000 party members voted by mail, and the results were counted until September 5. The ceremony of announcing the results was broadcast on Sky News in the presence of members of Parliament and members of the House of Lords at the Queen Elizabeth II Congress Center in the center of the British capital.
Truss's opponent was former finance minister Rishi Sunak, who held the Treasury from February 2020 to July 5, 2022. Trass and Sunak's candidates entered the final ballot after several rounds of voting in France's conservative parliament in the second half of July.
