Malaysia holds talks on special pilgrimage trips to Uzbekistan

Deputy hokim of Samarkand region Rustam Qobilov held a meeting with Mohd Shukri Ramli, head of Perlis state administration of Malaysia, and his deputy Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad. There they discussed issues of development of mutually beneficial cooperation.

It is noteworthy that the centuries-old Islamic heritage of Uzbekistan has great prospects for the development of pilgrimage tourism. In addition, Samarkand is opening up to the world in every possible way, with its world-famous shrines and pilgrimage sites of great importance in attracting tourists.

Also, the fact that Samarkand will become the capital of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2023 and will host the 25th Session of the UNWTO General Assembly demonstrates the increasing influence of Samarkand at the international level.

It is noteworthy that the area of Samarkand region was home to renowned scholars of the Muslim world, such as Imam al-Bukhari, Imam al-Moturidi, Makhdumi Azam, and their temple complexes have played an important role in the development of pilgrimage tourism.

For information, in order to develop bilateral relations in the field of pilgrimage tourism, a group of representatives from Samarkand region is currently holding talks in Malaysia on organizing special pilgrimage trips to Uzbekistan.
