Meeting with the Minister of Latvian Foreign Affairs

On February 8, 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.

The foreign ministers canvvassed a wide range of issues on the Uzbek-Latvian agenda. In particular, they paid special attention to the prospects of cooperation in political, diplomatic, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian scopes.

The parties expressed interest in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, intensifying political dialogue and expanding scientific and humanitarian exchanges.

The following issues were considered: the need to expand the legal framework for cooperation, in particular, to consider a number of draft documents, in particular a number of documents on the protection of the rights of migrant workers and citizens of Uzbekistan working temporarily in Latvia, including on an organizational basis; the importance of accelerating the adoption and recruitment and consideration of draft intergovernmental agreements on employment.

The ministers stressed the necessity to take agreed measures to boost bilateral trade and diversify its structure. Proposals were looked through to further stimulate economic diplomacy, including through the implementation of joint investment projects and the establishment of mutual trade missions.
The sides exchanged views on topical issues of international and regional politics.

During the meeting, a protocol on cooperation and consultations was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
