Meeting with the US Assistant Secretary of State

On May 24, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov (temporary) met with the visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu.

The sides canvassed the current state and prospects of Uzbek-American relations in different fields.

American side praised the reforms taking place in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as the practical and open foreign policy in the country. US government side expressed its alacrity to actively support the reform process in Uzbekistan.

Political dialogue has become more active in recent years. The decision to transform the annual consultation mechanism into a Strategic Partnership Dialogue and its successful holding in Tashkent in 2021 was a significant event in the history of bilateral relations and showed the readiness of the parties to comprehensively develop cooperation.

It was noted that it is important to carefully prepare for the next session of the Strategic Partnership Dialogue in Washington and its sectoral meetings at the expert level.

Uzbekistan and the United States are interested in continuing cooperation in the form of C5 + 1 in order to procure the concrete results in the fields of infrastructure, energy, transport, environmental protection and climate change.
