New checkpoints on the Tajikistan-Uzbekistan border

Tajik Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Abdujabbar Rakhmonzada and First Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan Ilham Mukhtarov discussed strengthening of customs cooperation between the countries in Tashkent.

The two sides agreed to reopen the Bekabad checkpoint on the Tajik-Uzbek border. This crossing point is located on the territory of Tajikistan in the Spitamen district of Tajikistan's Sughd province. It provides access to the Tashkent region.

The meeting also raised the issue of speeding up customs clearance procedures and avoiding vehicle congestion at border checkpoints.

In addition, the sides expressed interest in enhancing cooperation between the relevant agencies of the two states. Concrete proposals have been made to strengthen the effective activities of customs services in the transport of goods and products.
