“As of June 22, 2022, 920 probable cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown etiology have been reported in children in 33 countries in five regions,” the statement said.

According to the organization, 18 patients died as children, and in 45 cases organ transplants were required. It is estimated that half of the victims live in Europe.

The WHO estimates this global risk at a moderate level.
