Official launch of the activities of the International Advisory Committee

On September 15 of this year, the official launch ceremony of the International Advisory Committee on Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan was held at the Nurillaboy complex in Khiva.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Tourism and Sports Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Director of the World Heritage Center Jeti Hosograhar, Director of the International Research Center for the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Values (ICCROM) Webber Ndoro, UNESCO Representative in Uzbekistan Alexandros Makarigakis, representatives of the heads of regions where World Heritage sites are located and members of the Committee.

The Committee was established in accordance with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 371 dated June 14, 2021 and currently it includes 8 foreign, 2 local experts and 3 representatives of international organizations (ICOMOS, IKKROM and CRAterre).

The main activities of the International Advisory Committee are to strengthen the protection of objects of material cultural heritage and territories (objects) included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, to consider issues arising in the process of their protection and rational use, to improve the skills of personnel, to prepare proposals and recommendations for the rational development of historical cities to create a decent way of life for the population and other issues related to the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the country.
