On the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, 402 persons serving sentences were pardoned

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree "On pardoning a group of persons serving sentence, who have sincerely repented of their crime and stepped resolutely onto the path of correction".
In accordance with article 93, paragraph 23, of the Constitution, the decree pardons 402 persons serving a sentence who have committed an offence in ignorance but have already repented sincerely and firmly set out on the road to reform.
Of the pardoned persons, 128 are granted a complete release from punishment, 201 are granted parole, 15 are granted commutation of their sentences, and 223 are released from penal institutions, and 121 are taken off the register of the probation authorities. In addition, the terms of imprisonment imposed on 58 persons were reduced.
Among those pardoned were 17 foreign nationals, 26 men over 60 years of age, 63 women and 19 persons involved in banned organisations.
This event is a practical embodiment of the policy of humanism pursued in our country, as well as of such noble qualities of our people as generosity, indulgence, nobility and mercy.
In implementing the decree, the responsible ministries and agencies have been instructed to assist the pardoned persons in returning to their families and loved ones, in social adaptation, in engaging them in useful work, in choosing a healthy lifestyle and taking their rightful place in society.
