President pardons 541 convicts

In accordance with the decree signed by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, 541 people serving their sentence, who sincerely repented of their crime and were intent on recovery, were pardoned on the eve of Eid al-Adha, the holy holiday of Ramadan.
Of those pardoned, 374 have been fully exempted from the main penalty, 110 have been released conditionally before serving their sentence and 18 convicts have had their sentences commuted to lighter sentences. Also, 39 persons sentenced to imprisonment had their terms of imprisonment shortened.
Of the pardoned persons 36 were foreign nationals, 136 were women, 75 were men over 60 years of age, and 6 were persons involved in banned organizations.
The responsible ministries and agencies have been instructed to return the pardoned persons to their families and relatives, to adapt them to public life, to do useful work, to lead a healthy lifestyle and to find their rightful place in society.
