Project presentations of the Center for Contemporary Art and the first art residences in Tashkent

On May 17, 2022, the Fund for the Development of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan and the French Bureau of Architecture Studio KO presented a project on the renovation of the Center for Contemporary Art in Tashkent's Namuna and Hast Imam mahallas.
The architects talked about work stages and presented 3D models and visualizations of future buildings and spaces, as well as a model of the Contemporary Art Center created by Mica Mucciarelli, a well-known artist in the field of modeling and founder of Atelier Misto.
The second presentation was dedicated to the project to create artistic sites in the historical part of Tashkent: "Namuna" and "Hast Imam" mahallas, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art continues to work to further preserve the historical mahallas of the capital, their uniqueness and cultural and historical heritage, and initiates the creation of art residences on the territory of the Old City of Tashkent. The project will be implemented in partnership with Studio KO architectural bureau.
Two objects were identified for organization of the creative space. The first one is located in "Namuna" mahalla where the Matkarimboy madrasah will be reconstructed to create an art site, preserving traditional architectural appearance. The second one is located in the "Hast Imam" mahalla in the building of a former preschool educational institution.
The Tashkent art residences will include creative workshops, residences, an exhibition space, a library and a co-working space. The design concept of the art residences will be developed by the architectural bureau Studio KO, taking international standards into account.
