Regional approach to gender issues for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals

A regional conference "Sustainable Development and Women's Leadership in Central Asia" was held in Tashkent on October 28 as part of the dialogue of the leading women of Central Asia.

The event was organized by the United Nations Development Program, UN Women and the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia.

The event was attended by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries Tanzila Narbaeva and other members of the Dialogue, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS Countries Mirjana Spolyarich Egger, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia German, UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Aliya El-Yassir, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Yu Yu, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Matilda Dimovska, also high-ranking UN representatives in Central Asian countries, representatives of the International Committee The Red Cross, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Asian Development Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, women ambassadors of foreign countries in Uzbekistan.

Cooperation in the field of gender equality among leading women in Central Asia, especially in the legislature, as well as in the implementation of the MDGs and the study of best practices in the field of regulation, parliamentary oversight and gender equality, as well as the implementation of IRM in Uzbekistan. The importance of its close connection with the reforms was noted. BRM is being integrated into the concept of socio-economic development of Uzbekistan until 2030.

Experts from UN-Women conducted trainings on effective communication for women parliamentarians in Central Asia under the age of 40.

Based on the proposals and recommendations received at the end of the event, a Regional Action Plan for Sustainable Development, Gender Equality and Women's Leadership in Central Asia will be developed.
