Sanctions against Putin's entourage

Owing to the worsening situation in the Ukraine, Joe Biden's administration is considering several options for imposing sanctions on Russia and Russian individuals.

The US officials are considering the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia in connection with the situation around the Ukraine. This statement was made on Monday by CNN.

Members of "Putin's inner circle", Russian energy companies and banks could be subject to restrictions. New sanctions could also be imposed on Russia's sovereign debt. In the most radical, "nuclear", as CNN calls it, Russia may be cut off from the SWIFT interbank system.

The US side has also expressed fears that Russia could retaliate against any move by the US or its allies, CNN noted.
