Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office

On March 2, 2022, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Vladimir Voronkov, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN and Head of the Counter-Terrorism Department.

Voronkov is currently in Uzbekistan as part of the Tashkent International Conference on the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

At the beginning of the meeting, Vladimir Voronkov conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan the cordial greetings and best wishes of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

The issues of further development of practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN institutions and structures, including the Counter-Terrorism Department, were canvassed.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted with satisfaction the current level of fruitful cooperation. In particular, Uzbekistan is actively involved in the implementation of 15 projects of the Department in the fight against terrorism.

The implementation of the updated Joint Action Plan of the Central Asian countries and increasing the number of project was of particular significance.

The followings were discussed at the meeting: Carrying out multilateral activities in the framework of the resolution "Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance" adopted by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Uzbekistan, protecting young people from the negative effects of extremism and terrorism, exchanging experience in the field of rehabilitation and reintegration of persons returned from "hot spots", as well as opportunities for collaboration in training.

The sides exchanged views on issues on the regional agenda, including the development of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as measures to assist and assist the Afghan people.

Finally, Uzbekistan and the UN Counter-Terrorism Agency achieved an agreement to construct a common "road map" for boosting practical cooperation.
