Solar energy – the prospect of our future

Solar energy has a huge potential, especially for the conservation of natural resources. For the first time, solar panels were used in space in 1958, the United States and the USSR equipped their satellites with them.
A new solar power plant will be built in the central district of Navoi, which will add spark to more than 31,000 households in the country. With rapid urbanization and industrialization, along with population growth, the country will need more energy, especially after the economy recovers from the effects of the coronavirus.
Despite investments in transmission and distribution networks, electricity losses remain relatively high, estimated at 20 percent of net generation. The government intends to increase the share of renewable energy sources from 0.3 percent in 2016 to 25 percent. It is also planned to develop up to 5 gigawatts of solar energy by 2030.
It is expected that the implementation period of the solar energy project will be 25 years, and the electricity produced will be sold to the newly created state energy company "National Electric Network of Uzbekistan".
The project sets a precedent as a commercially viable model that can be successfully replicated to attract new private players to the market. In the future, this will help to increase the stability of electricity supply through projects in the field of renewable energy sources, contributing to ensuring a bright future for Uzbekistan.
