The institute of gender audit aimed at ensuring gender equality is being established

At the thirty-fifth plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis the law "On introducing additions and amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men" was considered. The law establishes the legal basis for conducting gender audits in government bodies and organizations.

In particular, it establishes that a gender audit is a study and assessment of the status of compliance with the requirements of the legislation on guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men, as well as a comprehensive gender approach in the activities of state bodies and organizations, including when conducting human resources policy.

It is specified that the main tasks of the gender audit are to study the ratio of women and men in state agencies and organizations and the state of organization by state agencies and institutions of their activity based on a comprehensive gender approach, as well as to assess the state of implementation of legislation in the sphere of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men. At the same time, provision is made for the development of proposals to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

The law establishes that a gender audit is conducted on the basis of an approved three-year plan by the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan in state bodies and organizations as part of public control, information and proposals on the results of the gender audit are sent to the Republican Commission on increasing the role of women in society, gender equality and family (Commission).

The law was approved by the senators.
