The Organization of Turkic States Election Observation Mission monitored the Presidential Elections in Turkmenistan

Upon the invitation from the Central Commission for holding Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan, the Organization of Turkic States International Election Observation Mission, composed of the representatives of the Secretariat, has monitored the Election of the President of Turkmenistan on 12 March 2022.

During the meetings held with the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Chairman of the Central Commission for holding Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan Gulmurad Muradov on 12-13 March 2022, the Mission was thoroughly informed on every aspect of the election process, ongoing reforms in the country, new amendments brought to the Electoral code on the basis of the recommendations of international community, participation of international observer missions in the elections, and preparations for the voting process for the Turkmenistan citizens living abroad.

On election day, the Mission monitored the voting process in a total of 11 polling stations: 8 in Ashgabat and 3 in Akhal Province. The International Election Observation Mission of the Organization of Turkic States reaffirmed that the presidential election in Turkmenistan was open, transparent and in accordance with Turkmen national legislation, as well as internationally recognized electoral standards and practices. expressed hope.
