The UN sent humanitarian aid to Tajikistan through Uzbekistan

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) sent 20 tons of humanitarian aid from the European Union and the Government of Japan to the Refugee Agency in Tajikistan through the Transportation Center in Termez, Uzbekistan.

The assistance is part of a joint effort by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and donors to assist the Tajik government prepare for the arrival of refugees from Afghanistan.

The first batch of humanitarian aid encompassed 104 special prefabricated housing modules for refugees, as well as mattresses, kitchen equipment, plastic wrap and other essentials.

Emergency preparedness and humanitarian assistance was made possible thanks to a generous contribution of the Government of Japan in the amount of USD 700,000 and the EU Department of Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection, which provided € 500,000.
