Ukraine lost $ 100 billion in two weeks

Ukraine has suffered $ 100 billion US in damage in two weeks from Russia's military operation, which is about half of the country's GDP.

The war in Ukraine could cost the country's economy $ 100 billion US in two weeks. Oleg Ustenko, economic adviser to the Ukrainian president, made the announcement at an online event of the Peterson Institute of International Economics.

Zelensky's adviser said the damage was probable and included damaged infrastructure, buildings, roads, bridges, hospitals and other property. As a result of the war, 50% of Ukrainian enterprises have completely ceased operations, and the other half are operating below their capacity.

Oleg Ustenko said some of the funds to repair such damage could be recovered from Russia's frozen assets around the world, including the Russian Central Bank's assets located abroad and immobilized by Western sanctions.

He added that the confiscated assets of Russian oligarchs could also be transferred to the reconstruction fund.

Pursuant to the presidential adviser, Ukraine's budget reserves now stand at $ 27.5 billion US, up from $ 30 billion US before Russia's military operation began.
