Upcoming elections will be phenomenal for Uzbek democracy

Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sadyk Safayev met with experts from the Needs Assessment Mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for interaction, deepening partnership to improve the legislative process and study advanced international experience in the implementation of parliamentary control. The possibilities of holding training seminars for representatives of the electoral structures of Uzbekistan were discussed.

The senator noted that the upcoming presidential elections will be phenomenal for the democracy of Uzbekistan. “It will be not only elections, but a referendum to approve the ongoing reforms over the past four years,” said S. Safayev.

Moreover, the meeting explained the electoral system of Uzbekistan and the amendments to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. OSCE representatives noted positive changes in our country, and it was also proposed to include a delegation from Uzbekistan in the OSCE commission to monitor democratic processes in other countries.
