Uzbek science suffered heavy losses

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and political representatives T.Narbayeva, N.Ismailov, A.Aripov, B.Yuldashev expressed their condolences on the death of Academician Abdumavlon Abdullayev. Abdumavlon Abdullayev, a leading figure in the field of genetics in Uzbekistan, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, passed away on December 8, 2022 at the age of 92.
A.Abdullayev was born on July 13, 1930 in Namangan region. In 1952 he graduated from the Central Asian state university and started his career as a junior researcher at the Central Asian experimental station of the Research Institute of Plant Industry. In 1961 he defended his Ph.D. thesis, in 1973 - doctoral thesis. In 1995 he was elected an active member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During almost 70 years of his scientific career he selflessly worked at the Academy of sciences. He worked as junior, senior researcher, head of the laboratory, director of the Institute of Genetics and Experimental Biology of Plants, chairman of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the Presidium of RAS and till the last days of his life as the chief researcher of the Institute and made a worthy contribution to the development of science.
During his scientific activities, Abdullaev made a great contribution to the development of the fundamental foundations of Gusin genetics. On the basis of the scientific school established by the scientist a number of new varieties of cotton was discovered, as well as the possibility of using wild cotton species as useful donors in genetic breeding. He is one of the founders of the cotton gene collection, which is the fundamental basis and national asset for the development of the national cotton breeding science.
He is the author of more than 600 scientific works including more than 10 monographs. More than 300 of his scientific articles were published in prestigious international journals. Under the direct supervision of the painstaking scientist, who as an enthusiastic mentor has taught many young people the secrets of science, more than 20 doctors of sciences and about 40 candidates of sciences have been trained.
Merits of academician A.Abdullayev in development of the science in our country were worthily noted by our state. He was awarded the "Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan" (1980), the Order of "Mehnat shuhrati" (2003), "State Prize of the Republic of Uzbekistan" (2011). The memory of the outstanding scientist, good teacher and modest man Abdumavlon Abdullayev will forever remain in our hearts.
