Uzbekistan and Canada intend to expand cooperation

On June 1, 2022, S. Umurzakov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, received E. Leclerc, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Negotiations provided an opportunity to address the most pressing issues of bilateral cooperation in political, investment, commercial and economic spheres.
In particular, measures were considered to enlist Canadian financial and industrial companies to invest in Uzbekistan and implement projects. Uzbekistan's mining, chemical, petrochemical and textile industries, as well as agriculture, are promising areas for Canadian business.
Development of bilateral trade was also of particular attention. Uzbek-Canadian trade turnover increased by 40% in 2021, and in this regard, the parties agreed to develop specific proposals to diversify and increase mutual supplies.
In this regard, the prospects of holding the Uzbek-Canadian business forum this year, as well as industrial exhibitions "Made in Uzbekistan" and "Made in Canada" in both countries were discussed.
Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization, Canada's participation in the implementation of projects and programs under the UN Multilateral Trust Fund for Human Security in the Aral Sea region, the two countries, in particular, Tashkent and Ontario, Navoi and Quebec, issues of close relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Kashkadarya region and the province of Alberta were in the discussion list.
