Uzbekistan-Estonia: A new stage of inter-parliamentary cooperation

For the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, an inter-parliamentary group for cooperation with the Estonian Rigikogusi (Parliament) was established by a joint decision of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

The 16-member inter-parliamentary group was headed by Boriy Alikhanov, chairman of the Senate Committee on Development and the Environment of the Aral Sea Region.

It should be noted that in April 2021, a cooperation group with the Parliament of Uzbekistan was established in the Estonian Parliament.

According to the report, the introduction of this institution of cooperation will allow expanding inter-parliamentary ties, raising the level of political dialogue, further developing trade, economic, investment and technological, scientific, academic, educational and cultural ties.

Inter-parliamentary cooperation also serves as an inter-parliamentary coordination of multilateral efforts within international organizations and regional structures.

The first round of talks between parliamentary groups of the two countries is currently underway.
