Uzbekistan intends to use Iranian port of Chabahar

The country's government intends to gain access to sea routes, which will increase imports and exports of Uzbekistan.
Iran, India and Uzbekistan intend to hold a second meeting of the trilateral working group to discuss the joint use of the port of Chabahar on the Iranian coast of Makran for trade and transit. This was announced by Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov.
The first virtual meeting of the trilateral working group on the joint use of the port of Chabahar took place in December last year, and now the parties are setting the date for the second meeting.
Chabahar is an important port for access to the countries of the region. It currently has port infrastructure and strategic equipment for unloading and loading up to 15 million tons of goods per year. This sea gate, due to its strategic position, can play a key role in the transportation of goods from the countries of Central Asia.
The port of Chabahar is the cheapest, safest and most reliable way to connect the two most populous markets in the world: the countries of the Indian Ocean basin with a population of about 2 billion people and the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus and Eastern Europe with a population of about 800 million people. This advantage is that landlocked Uzbekistan has decided to take advantage of.
