Uzbekistan-United Kingdom: intensifying dialogue in the C5+1 format

Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Jamshid Khojaev held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Uzbekistan Tim Torlot.
The sides discussed progress in bilateral cooperation and prospects of expanding interaction in investment and trade-economic spheres.
The sides noted the consistent growth in mutual trade, which increased by 30% between January and August this year. Particularly thanks to obtaining by Uzbekistan the status of a beneficiary of Extended GSP Scheme, which has also allowed to diversify and increase the volume of exports to the UK market by more than 50%.
Prospects of expanding investment activity of British companies in Uzbekistan in areas such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles as well as IT sector and green economy have been considered.
Possibilities of enhancing regional cooperation have been discussed separately. The need to intensify dialogue in the C5+1 format for the development of trade and investment, transport and communications, energy cooperation and mitigation of the negative consequences of the ecological crisis in the Aral Sea region has been emphasised.
