Vegetables were grown on the soil of Mars

Experts have grown turnips and radishes on Martian soil. However, they are not like their counterparts on earth.

The soil of Mars is not rich in organic nutrients necessary for the growth of many plants. The water is very salty. In a new study, scientists studied the volcanic rocks of the Red Planet and conducted their own experiments on growing plants.

Researchers have found that alfalfa grown for livestock grows well. Also, Synechococcus sp, which is used for desalination of water on Earth. Marine bacteria PCC 7002 were found to help remove salt from Martian water as well.

However, the crops grown by scientists were not like the ones on earth. Because they differed from them in that they were not nutritious, says korrespondent.net.
