Vladimir Norov met with the Chairman of the Assembly of the Global Green Growth Institute

On October 24, 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov, who is in Seoul to participate in the 15th Central Asia - Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum, met with Ban Ki-moon, the Chairman of the Assembly of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), former UN Secretary General.

The current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Global Green Growth Institute have been discussed during the meeting.

It was noted that the activities of GGGI representative office in Uzbekistan, established in February 2022, provide ample opportunities for international cooperation in the field of climate change mitigation, development of "green" technologies and "green" economy, decarbonization of industry (carbon neutral), including based on the experience of the Republic of Korea.

In accordance with the agreement between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and GGGI, the project "Environmental restoration of the Aral Sea region to eliminate the consequences of the Aral Sea accident" worth 5.9 million US dollars is being implemented today. At the same time, green agricultural production and renewable energy projects are being developed in the Aral Sea region.

In turn, Ban Ki-moon noted that he is well aware of the environmental problems of Central Asia, that he has repeatedly visited the Aral Sea, and personally knows about the catastrophic consequences of the dying out of the Aral Sea.

He also drew attention to the national initiative "Yashil makon" ("green space") launched by the President of Uzbekistan, as well as to the "Strategy of actions for transition to green economy" and the program of development of renewable and hydrogen energy adopted in Uzbekistan.
