Uzbekistan revises legislation on felling of trees and shrubs

At the seventeenth plenary session of the Senate, the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection provided information on tree felling in Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, it was said that offenders who cut down trees illegally escaped punishment with a fine. In this regard, it was proposed to toughen the punishment for cutting down trees.

-People pay fines and continue to cut trees again. Therefore, the new proposals of the committee in this direction are supported by the state. There is no need to put things off until later. Because one generation grows until you plant a tree and make it big. It takes a long time to release oxygen from itself and give the environment shade and coolness. Therefore, the relevant ministries and departments, regional structures are required to sharply increase responsibility in these matters, to ensure the inevitability of punishment, Tanzila Narbaeva said.

It is worth noting that in Uzbekistan the moratorium on tree felling was extended until the end of 2021. During this period, it was planned to improve legislation, revise mechanisms, establish public relations and put things in order. There are 6 months left until the end of the moratorium, but so far nothing has been done in this area.
