Development and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia

As part of the official visit of the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

The Russian side was informed in detail about the reforms being carried out in the republic, the main positions and assessments of the state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations with the Russian Federation.

It was noted that due to the strong political will and special relations of the Presidents of the two countries, Sh. Mirziyoyev and V. Putin, bilateral cooperation is dynamically developing at all levels.

V. Matvienko highly appreciated the rapid transformations taking place in Uzbekistan in the socio-economic sphere, aimed at building an open democratic society in order to improve the welfare of citizens.

It was noted that in the light of the upcoming visit to Russia of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev, significant work is underway to substantively fill the agenda of the Summit. A substantial package of bilateral documents has been prepared. Parliaments must contribute to their practical implementation.

During the meeting, issues of deepening cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, the development of interregional ties in the trade and economic sphere, science, education, health care and other areas were considered.

In this context, she stressed the importance of holding the second Forum of Interregional Cooperation.

Following the talks, a Memorandum of Cooperation on labor migration was signed between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
