3rd International Conference on Education and Linguistics

Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) hosted the 3rd International Conference on Education and Linguistics (ICEL 2022). The event focused on Enhancing the effectiveness and quality of teaching and research.

It brought together the local and international teachers and academics, curriculum and materials developers, testing and assessment organizations, government officials and international organisations to enhance current knowledge and practice in language education.

Bakhrom Mirkasimov, Rector of WIUT opened the event highlighting – “Uzbekistan has been going through bold reforms to achieve sustainable development. The Government is putting stress on improving the educational system of the country to have skilled and professional labour force in all sectors. That is absolutely aligned with WIUT’s goal and that is what we have been doing for 20 years already. We are happy to provide such a platform that will contribute to a constructive dialogue in educational sector not only in the country, but the whole Central Asian region.”

The participants of the Conference mentioned that raising the effectiveness and quality of teaching and research has been always a relevant topic of any educational system in the world. It was highlighted that recently, COIVD-19 pandemic has demonstrated the downsides of the system and pointed at the lack of research in teacher effectiveness. Thus, current language teaching system and research practice must be modernised and adapted to the rapid changes, given a specific stress to both - online and offline modes of education.

According to the panelists, as a consequence of lacking understanding about teacher effectiveness educators lose the students’ attention, underestimate their learning capacities and life skills. While the western education system considers acquiring 21st-century skills for students and teachers, the Central Asian region should try to catch up with the developments.

Westminster International University in Tashkent is the first International University in Uzbekistan and the first of its kind in Central Asia to offer International British Higher Education.
