Central Asia + Japan dialogue is an effective platform for cooperation

On April 15, 2018, in the form of a video conference, the 8th meeting of the foreign ministers of the "Central Asia + Japan" Dialogue was held.

The event was attended by representatives of the governments of Japan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and heads of foreign affairs agencies. On behalf of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with Minister of Foreign Trade and investment of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri.Umurzakov took part.

The main tasks of this platform are political dialogue, expansion of trade and economic cooperation, strengthening the position of Japanese and Japanese companies in Central Asia, conducting cultural and humanitarian exchanges with the countries of the region, within the framework of which cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and drug trafficking in the region, regional security, agriculture, water and energy resources, transport and logistics.

In their speeches, representatives of the countries participating in the meeting spoke about the current state of cooperation with Japan, identified the topical issues in the priority areas of mutual cooperation, and also put forward proposals for further deepening of relations.

S.Umurzakov appealed to the participants of the meeting and noted that Uzbekistan is ready for the agenda of cooperation and dialogue. He summarized the results of 30 years of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan, as well as the most important areas from the point of view of the development of cooperation within the framework of dialogue, including the introduction of Japan's advanced experience, the expansion of cooperation in the fight against infectious diseases through the establishment of joint pharmaceutical clusters and specialized research, on account of the fight against cybercrime and other security challenges, he spoke about the implementation of joint projects to ensure sustainable socio-economic development, diversify transport corridors, build new railways and highways, and develop air transporti capacity.
