COVID-19, spanning the globe, significantly hit the education system

In compliance with UNICEF statistics, the pandemic has proliferated the number of children under the age of 10 in low- and middle-income countries from 50 % to 70 %.

It was also reported that the pandemic has exacerbated inequality in global education due to the lack of resources and the low quality of distance education in low- and middle-income countries.

Uganda is the country with the longest school closure during the pandemic. Here, schools were completely closed for 60 weeks from March 20, 2020 to October 14, 2021.

School closures in India and Nepal are also among the longest-running school holidays in the world as of October 31, 2021.
