Crafts of Margilan through the eyes of delegations

The earliest known crafts, of course, were stone carving, jewelry making, and woodworking. At the stages of civilization, thanks to these crafts, different professions began to appear one after another.
The settlement of artisans in one place led to the emergence of cities in Ferghana. Along the natural landscapes, proximity to water sources, and caravan routes, craft districts sprang up, followed by cities.
Margilan has long been called the land of silkworms and artisans. This city reflects the ancient history of our country, the unique and inimitable culture, customs and traditions of our people. In Margilan, ancient craft schools have been preserved, especially the silk school. Today, more than a thousand households in Margilan are engaged in needlework. The Artisans ' Association has 527 members and more than 1,000 students.
There are 17 types of crafts in Margilan. Their main directions are the production of national fabrics (adras, atlas) and clothing made from them, the production of national shoes, wood processing, wood carving, embroidery of the national Duppy hat, carpentry, blacksmithing, copper work.
«SILK IKAT AND CARPET» LLC was established in cooperation with «Uzbekpaksanoat» and «Hunarmand» associations for the production of silk carpets and satins.
The craft Center of Margilan , the first meeting place of the participants of the Turkish Council summit, was built on the initiative of master Ibrahimjon Sultanov on the basis of public-private partnership. There are 600 craftsmen working here. It produces more than 200 types of weaving of satin and adras materials, carpet weaving, household services, sewing and needlework. The center employs about 2,000 women and young people.
The lower floor of the two-story center is covered with fabrics made of satin, adras, silk, velvet and bekasam. On the ground floor there is an exhibition of finished products, a podium and a workshop. The shop demonstrates the process of drawing flowers, linking flowers, making circles, and making flowers.
There is a carpet shop on the top floor of the building. Here, all products are made exclusively by hand from 100% pure silk.
